Jodi made a great jacket from a dress she didn't want to throw out. Read about her and her up-fashioned jacket then visit her blog and store too!
Jodaeo Design was born from a dream, a vision where I could create wearable art. I have a strong belief that art is not only meant to adorn walls, but should be worn. Jodaeo Design jewelry is individually designed and created by hand. I spend many hours planning and making every piece. Each one is unique, and due to the nature of my work, no piece can be recreated. Therefore, you will not see another person wearing your art piece.
I have owned this dress for several years. It is dated, but I could not convince myself to throw it out.
Just last week I found another dress made out of the same fabric at a second hand shop for a quarter.

I removed the collar and cut the front open
Here is the collar. I used it later to make a loop and button closure.
I serged the raw edges. This gave the garment a finished look without hemming.
I used the other dress to make the sleeves.
Two part sleeve
Button closure with rosette
Fabric covered buttons
I finished this in time for the annual Mother Daughter Tea hosted by my mother-in-law. By-the-way, the total cost to make this jacket was $6.55

boy! talk about crafty! my kind of outfit too! fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThat looks incredible! I've just recently started making really cool bolero style short sleeved shawls out of t-shirts. Amazing how you can take something no one would wear and make it something everyone wants! For little to nothing!
